Mawhinney qualified for entry into the Marine scout sniper course because he'd already earned distinction as an expert marksman. Mawhinney made his name as a scout sniper and skilled marksman, but that wasn't what he wanted when he joined the Marines, like his father before him, the book suggests. Though he has accepted his service and fame, some of the nightmares have never quite gone away. Jim Lindsay's "The Sniper," the first biography to explore Mawhinney's life and experiences in and out of war with his input, tells the story of a wild young man who found his calling in a horrible conflict he would later try, unsuccessfully, to leave behind. With 103 confirmed kills and hundreds more probable, Mawhinney is the deadliest sniper in Marine Corps history, a fact that ruffled some feathers when it first came to light decades after the end of the Vietnam War. It often indicates a user profile.Ĭhuck Mawhinney is a legend for the death he dealt in Vietnam as a sniper protecting his fellow Marines, but he might never have become one if it hadn't been for getting blackout drunk at the worst possible time and, later, faking a toothache to score a chance to join a sniper team, a new book has revealed. ![]() ![]() In a nutshell, the connection between the computer and the printer has failed somehow. Why do print jobs get stuck with the status “Spooling?” The connection between the computer and the printer has failed somehow. CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to manage print jobs and queues.ĬUPS is often what’s used for printer spooling on macOS and Linux systems. One of the most used outside of Windows is the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) which lets a computer act as a print server and does the print spooling and scheduling. You’ll commonly come across print spoolers with Windows systems but there are alternatives. Computer speed stores the jobs in the queue, and printer speed takes over when a document has left the queue and is now printing. The reason for this is that printers don’t have anywhere near as much memory as computers, and need an intermediary program to conduct and wave the print jobs to home plate. Printer status spooling essentially means another document is printing, and yours is waiting for its place in the queue. And it’s how the printer retrieves the print jobs. It’s the computer’s way of letting the printer know there’s another job in the queue. This means you don’t have to wait for a previous job to finish printing before you select print. But it holds it in the queue until the current job has been printed in full. What this means is that the print spooler allows you to send a document to the printer while another one is printing. You can’t have two players on a base, and printers can’t print multiple documents at once. They will hold up a document if there’s another job ahead of it currently printing. I know right, printers and baseball, could I make this more exciting? The print spooler service tells the documents when they’re up next, i.e. If I may have a little fun, think of print spoolers like third base coaches in baseball. There are all different types of spoolers in computing (once upon a time there were literal tape spools running inside computers), so the print spooler, you guessed it, takes care of just your print documents. When you select print, your program talks to the print spooler service to work out how to render (or draw) your print job so the printer will understand it and put the colors in the right spots on the page. The print spooler is a dedicated program/software that essentially manages the order of the documents to proceed to the print queue. Think of print spoolers like third base coaches in baseball… What is a print spooler? The word print appeared in this introduction eight times. You then ask yourself, “What the heck does ‘Printer spooling but not printing’ mean?” Probably shortly followed by quoting Office Space. The print queue shows your stuck job with a status of either “Printing” or “Paused - Spooling”. ![]() You walk back to your computer and check the status of the print job. ![]() You’ve hit print, but you arrive at the printer to see no printout. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On receipt of your order we request that you check the items as soon as possible. She doesn't want to be seen as a bad person. Yeah, as much as she argues that the choices she makes are pragmatic or the murders she commits are for the good of the group and are logical and don't count as murder because they're not based in emotion, we get to finally see in this moment that actually she is a little bit conflicted. She even decides to call Walter and leave the most awkward voicemail of all time afterward.Ĭaligula is played by John Cameron Mitchell from Hedwig and the Angry Itch, and it’s just fantastic to watch him and Cristina Ricci in this scene. Unlike Eleven’s Upside Down world in Stranger Things, this sensory depravation chamber takes us deep into the twisted horror show that is Misty’s twisted mind. In the present timeline, Misty’s big scene comes in the form of a sensory depravation chamber. “I can’t have another death on my hands,” she sobs, and Ben-realizing, perhaps, how awful it would be to kill himself in front of a young, messed up girl-steps back from the ledge. She tried so hard but couldn’t save the baby. He asks if she could push him, which is a pretty horrible thing to ask someone, especially a teenage girl.Īnd finally Misty gets real. ![]() “Do it,” he tells her, even more at peace with his plan. ![]() She threatens him, threatens to tell the world he’s gay. Ben cleans up and walks to the cliff, ready to hurl himself from the edge when Misty arrives and begs him to stop. Ben’s latest vision/flashback ended with Paul leaving, telling him he’s not going to be able to return. The next scene, after Misty climbs back up from where Crystal’s body used to be-having mysteriously vanished!-she finds Coach Ben by the cliffside. It’s not easy, as an actor, to make your acting look convincingly fake! She’s clearly faking and at least Mari can tell. In the first, she fake cries to the girls she’s searching for Crystal with, telling them it’s just too much, she can’t bear it. In the past timeline, Samantha Hanratty does such an extraordinary job in two back-to-back scenes. I have to give both actresses who play her a kudos at this point. Misty has all the best scenes this episode. Misty is determined to find the body before anyone else because she doesn’t want them to eat her, which seems a little selfish given the nature of her death. But hopefully she’s fine! they both agree, smacking their lips.Ĭrystal is not fine, of course, but she’s also not where Misty left her. Curiouser and curiouser, especially with the lingering cannibalism-something now openly discussed between two of the “new” girls when they note that one silver lining of Crystal dying is, well, lunch. “What the f*#$?” Nat blurts out, because it’s Nat and we love her. It’s almost like a dream, when Shauna stops and Lottie finally takes a breath and we know she’s still alive (though, yeah, we knew she would be). Why did nobody intervene sooner? Shock? The power of Lottie’s will holding them back? Sitting astride her, hitting her again and again and again, until Lottie’s face is purple and red with bruises, until she’s very nearly dead. Shauna, hitting Lottie in the face, knocking her to the ground. In the past, a scene of raw violence and fury. The women dancing by the fire at Lottie’s strange healing center in the forest, under antler chandeliers. Lightning Crashes plays over both scenes. “I know there’s a lot of pain right now, but let it out.” Lottie tells Travis to take Javi into the other room. When Lottie confronts her, Shauna punches her in the face. Shauna doesn’t react well to Misty’s humming and starts breaking down, accusing her friends of eating her baby. The Wilderness, she argues, gives them what they need. There’s even this discussion between Lottie and the others. I think this is important both because Shauna is clearly one of the many people who think of miscarriage when they hear this song, which explains her reaction to Misty, but also because if you take the song’s actual meaning at face value-birth, rebirth, death, transference of life, how these are all happening simultaneously-you get a bit deeper into the meaning of the episode. ![]() ![]() In the depression-era 1930s, bicycles were seen as a luxury.
